chocolate chip cookies @ wannacomewith.com

Welcome to my little Vancouver baking blog, where you’ll find recipes for cookies, cookies, and so many more cookies. Plus the occasional candy, cake, or brownie recipe. And sometimes? Even real food. Yes! I do eat real food sometimes. Healthy food, too! Vegetables are your friend.

Where did I get my love of baking? My mom isn’t a bad cook, but she’s never really enjoyed cooking & baking. And when I was a kid, she never brought me into the kitchen to teach me. I don’t think it ever even occurred to her that I might find that fun. But I grew up in a small town in the 70s, and we still had Home Ec at school. Yup, we learned cooking and cleaning and sewing. And baking.

I actually still remember the first thing we ever made – pineapple upside down cake. I’m pretty sure it was awful, but I loved that we went from seemingly unrelated raw ingredients to cake. How awesome!

I enjoy cooking, but baking? That’s magic.

And I love cookbooks. Seriously, it’s a problem. I have a LOT of cookbooks. Especially books with beautiful photography (because I also love photography).

When I get new book, I like to curl up on the sofa with a cup of tea (or a gin & tonic) and flip through it for inspiration and pick out a few recipes I want to try. But I don’t always get around to actually trying them out. Much as I love to bake, I’m a single person and I really don’t need to have an entire cake or 4 dozen cookies in my home at any given time. So if I only bake something once every couple months, I’m more likely to make a tried and true recipe than take a chance on a new one and be stuck with several dozen cookies I don’t want. I tend to come back to the recipes I know I like.

Which is kinda sad. I love baking, and I have all these beautiful books full of tempting recipes… and hey look at that – I work in an office with a lot of coworkers. Coworkers who love treats. Who doesn’t love treats?

So this is my goal. I’ve loosely named it “Cookie of the Week”, but it won’t always be cookies. And let’s be honest – it won’t always be weekly. There are bound to be weeks where I just don’t feel like baking something, or it’s too frickin’ hot to be in the kitchen. But the goal here is to bake something once a week and work my way through all of my beautiful beautiful cookbooks.

If you’re looking for fancy? You’ve probably come to the wrong place. I may randomly decide I need to learn how to make fondant flowers or hand-dipped salted caramels, but mostly what you’ll find here are simple homemade treats. Peanut butter cookies, brownies, maybe the occasional bundt cake. Hopefully some nice photography (I’m working on it). And occasionally a completely random post that has nothing whatsoever to do with baking for my coworkers.

But mostly cookies. Because cookies were invented for sharing.

Recipes will be chosen completely at whim, mostly from my collection of books, but sometimes from one of the amazing bloggers out there.

I’m gonna go bake something now. Wanna come with?
